At the moment I have my mother's lovely, lovely camera on loan. Today I went out to the barn and snapped some photos of the geldings just 'hanging out'. So fun to play around with! I aimed to capture the wonderful and woolly textures that their coats are at this time of year. Of course the pre-sunset lighting helped too :)

Holiday Art Market 2013!
Today was another successful art market at Larkin Arts! There will be another one held Dec. 14th, I won't be participating but if you live in the area you should definitely check it out! Lots of great, local talent :)
And if you didn't/can't make either event for your Christmas shopping needs, don't forget about my Etsy shop! Which features my collection of prints in sizes 8"x10" and 12"x16", as well as a few originals and some lovely greeting cards. Tis the Season :)

Work in Progress: Haircut2
I wanted to share a work in progress that's on the closer end to completion, but still needs some tweaks here and there. It's the second part of my 'Haircut' diptych.

Chloe
Here's a dog portrait commission I've been working on and finally feel that it is finished! Chloe is the first of 4 portraits (I'm working on the second currently) that are small 6 x 8 paintings. The series is a homage to the family's past and present beloved canine friends. I will continue to post them as they come out!

Sneak Peek!
I haven't posted in a while because I've been primarily working on commissions and my Art Lotto portrait (and I haven't wanted to spoil anything)! So I thought before I leave for the beach this week I should at least show a 'sneak peek' at my art lotto piece. I'm really happy with how it came out and so excited to see what everyone else has been working on!

Striped Avocados
I haven't done a small still life in a while since I've been solely working on completing the larger figure paintings for my most recent show. And alas, now I can take a quick breather and do something for fun that isn't as time consuming! And I love painting avocados :)

Women's Work Opening
I had the opportunity to participate in an all women art showt titled "Women's Work", it consisted of 5 (not including myself) fabulous women artists who live and create right out of Harrisonburg. The show had a variety of different styles and mediums making it a great mix of talent, not to mention we had a great turnout! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us, if you couldn't make the opening the show will be up all month at the Smith House.

Haircut Part I
Here's a more in depth piece I've been working on. There will eventually be a 'Part II', making it a diptych, which will be exciting. It's going to be a part of a show featuring women artists alongside a larger piece that I've been working on since January! Crazy! And it's actually finished, which is the unbelievable part (in my mind at least!). I'll post pictures of that one soon.

6 x 6 Show at Larkin Arts
It's been a while! I actually have been painting despite my leave of absence from my blog. Anywho, here's a piece I did for a "6 x 6" show at Larkin Arts. The constraints of the show were that no piece could exceed 6" in any one direction. I wanted to do something that would stand out amongst the sea of tiny submissions while incorporating the feminist themes which are prevalent throughout my larger figure paintings. The picture isn't great but I one 3rd place! Woo!

Guatemala Study I
6"x8" oil on canvas panel |
This is a study for a larger painting that is based off of a reference photo I took while in Guatemala this past January.

Kiwi Dance
6" x 8" oil on canvas panel |
For this painting I wanted to focus on the 'geometry' of the kiwi; really emphasizing the quirky shapes that are created when the fruit is sliced in half.

Pillow Talk
5"x 7" oil on canvas panel |
I couldn't resist this title. The tomatoes just seemed too juicy and "intimate". I rarely work with a pattern, but I thought I'd give this one a shot. It's actually a woven table runner I got in Guatemala this past January.

Young Model
This is was the last of the paintings I did at the workshop last week. Our model was a young woman, who was actually doing it for the first time, she did a great job! Anywho, I really had fun zeroing on her face and getting a nice, loose portrait of her.

Figure- Workshop Day II
11" x 14" oil on canvas panel |
This is again, from the workshop I attended this past weekend. We worked on figures the second and third day, so here is the first of the two paintings I completed. My goal for the painting was keeping it loose, yet dimensional and playing with the 'finished vs. unfinished' aspects of the composition.

Still Life- Workshop Day I
11"x14" oil on canvas panel |
The next few posts will be paintings I did this past weekend at a David Shelvino workshop. My goals for the workshop were in getting a fresh start, a new perspective and 'eye' in painting. I have been working on a large figurative for last month or so and just before this weekend was feeling rather stuck. Since coming back, I definitely feel rejuvenated, refreshed and ready to move forward with it.
